Courreges Awarded a Texas Young Lawyers Association President’s Award of Merit

The President’s Award of Merit is given at the discretion of the Texas Young Lawyers Association’s President to recognize individuals who have made a significant contribution to the furtherance of the goals and objectives of TYLA, or who have performed above and beyond the call of duty while conducting the business of the Texas Young Lawyers Association. This year’s awards are presented to individuals who put forth exceptional efforts on behalf of TYLA though their committee service. This year’s recipients are:

David C. Courreges, Austin
David has earned the title of TYLA “superstar.” He participated in several TYLA committees, many of which he was not formally assigned to. His dedication, enthusiasm, and volunteerism epitomizes the spirit of TYLA. This year, David spearheaded the effort to create and implement TYLA’s Vote America! Honor the Fight, Exercise Your Right video on a fast rack. He participated in every step of the production, including scriptwriting, expert interviews, and filming. Most impressive, due to his efforts, nearly every high school senior in the Austin ISD viewed the video an learned the hard fight various groups waged for the right to vote. David also partnered with Jam Miller of the State Bar of Texas Law Related Education Department in educating hundreds of Texas teachers regarding the various TYLA programs, including Vote America! David also assisted with the monthly TYLA newsletter, eNews, including writing several featured articles. He is very creative and on many occasions assisted TYLA President Sylvia Cardona in drafting emails to TYLA’s members. David always finds time to make TYLA a bigger success. He will serve as TYLA’s Secretary in 2009-2010.
